What is a Proverbs 31 Woman? Part 1

What is a Proverbs 31 Woman? Part 1

As I look over my day and my week, I see that there is a lot to get done!  From today, going to get my hair done, to organizing a meetup group, to going to the grocery store, cooking for me and the hubby, spending quality time with the hubby, serving him, doing laundry; then in between time working to serve women through Detour Movement Inc., I realize that I have to be a  Proverbs 31 Woman to really balance it all.

So when you read about a Proverbs 31 Woman, you learn that the Proverbs 31 Woman is like Super mom!  She is a bad mamma jamma and foxy as she can be!  It can be kind of intimidating and overwhelming and some will say unrealistic.  But rather than being intimidating by this, I encourage you to embrace it. You don't have to do everything right now, today or even this week.  You can implement a little at a time.

So I want to share more about what a Proverbs 31 Woman is, what I am doing in my life to line up as a Proverbs 31 Woman and what you can do to join the journey.

A Proverbs 31 Woman is honest and trust-worthy! Simply put she tells the truth, she is able to be transparent and have open and honest communication regardless of the situation or the repercussions or relationships it may cause.  I have to admit this has not always been easy for me because there were things that happened in my past with some guys that frankly I was not going to shout from the rooftop!  I was ashamed and I thought if I shared these things my husband, he would not accept me.  So I was dealing with the fear of rejection and just my own shame and guilt.

But I thank God for giving me the confidence to know, I am not defined by my past!  Things that happened in my past were necessary for me to be the woman I am today and I no longer have to hide and be ashamed of my mess, but rather I allow it to be my ministry.

A Proverbs 31 woman respects and honors her husband!  My husband is an AMAZING photography and recently he was published in a magazine!  This was a goal he established at the beginning of the year!
When he bought the magazine home, I told him how proud I was of him for his accomplishments!  I even held it up so he could take a picture for his blog!

You know as a Proverbs 31  gives her man praise, honor and respect him.

A Provides 31 woman provides domestic support for her household, rather she is single or married. Today and every weekend, I do the grocery shopping for our household.  Today I came home and cooked some flounder with lemon-butter sauce, collard greens, neck-bones and rice. A husband expects and needs domestic support from his wife!  Doing this allows me to serve my husband and ultimately myself in making I/we have food to eat and a clean/organized living space.
A Proverbs 31 woman makes good decisions when it comes to saving and investing.  Recently, I realized I was over spending with my grocery shopping.  I stopped buying everything I felt like we would need eventually and instead I decided to create a weekly grocery list and only buy those things on the list.  This helps me to focus on planning ahead and avoid wasteful spending on groceries.
Outside of that, I put a significant amount of each pay check in our joint savings account, so the hubby and I can have assets to make future investments.
A Proverbs 31 Woman practices the Spiritual disciplines: daily prayer, daily scripture reading and daily worship.  From the beginning of the year until now, we have been studying the Women of the Bible.  We are taking a break for the month of July.  During this break we are going to read The Transformational Process According to Proverbs for the Next 31 Days from Barnes & Nobles for Nooks. or here for Amazon.com ebook for Kindles.  This will keep us in our word daily!

This will be my 4th or 5th time doing this devotion. When I did it for the first time, I was going through a storm on my job.  My job is very mentally draining.  Some people describe my office as a zoo or Vietnam!  So needless to say it gets crazy.  When I read this devotion, I was able to find peace in the mist of my storm.  I was reminded that I did not have to fight my own battles because God was fighting them on my behalf.  I had a shift in my mindset and my attitude!  I invite you to join the Proverbs 31 Day Challenge!  What good is it to you, to know what a Proverbs 31 Woman is, if you are not striving everyday to become a Proverbs 31 woman! Join us next week to learn  more about what is a Proverbs 31 Woman and what you can do to strive each day to be a Proverbs 31 Woman!
