"God desires Relationship, Not Church Attendance"
The term "Christian" has been loosely used here lately. Nowadays, everyone is a Christian by title and church attendance. So many believe that simply going to church and serving on church auxiliaries has earned their seat in the Kingdom. Many have become comfortable and complacent in their lifestyle and in making church a weekly routine or obligation.
I recall when I was at this state in my Christian walk. I thought that because my parents were
devoted Christ followers and their lives exemplified Christ than certainly that
guaranteed me a seat in heaven. I
honestly believed that if I attended church regularly, paid my tithes and
served on the choir; then my works alone were enough to declare myself as a
devoted Christian. I often heard of
people praying without ceasing, fasting and doing other spiritual things but
none of that was for me. I was a contemporary Christian and felt that those things were extra and time consuming. But all the while I was sadly mistaken. See,
there came a point in my life where I could no longer depend on my parents or
grandparents spiritual relationship but desperately needed to build one of my
own.
Attending church was no longer good enough nor was it
helping me to grow spiritually. I was staying busy doing church things, but spiritually I was selling myself short. There was no conviction in my heart against wrong doing; only guilt and worry of displeasing my
parents, pastor and those that were important to me.
I was at a place in life where I knew that I needed a relationship with
God and that meant spiritual growth outside of church attendance. I knew that in order for me to do this that
it would take work on my end and from there, the journey began! I am going to share with you the steps I took
in going from mere church attendance to building and maintaining a solid
relationship with God!
1 1. I made up in my mind that I was going to give
God all of me! (Romans 12:1-2).
2 2. I removed every distraction from my life! (1 Corinthians 7:35).
3 3. I committed to a prayer life – No Exceptions! (1
Thessalonians 5:-17).
4 4. I committed to reading my bible daily – No Exceptions!
(2 Timothy 3:16-17; Psalms 119:105; Joshua 1:8).
5. I sought spiritual guidance and influence though
spiritual leaders! (Hebrews 13:17).
6. I understood the true meaning of servant hood
and embraced it! (Philippians 2:5-8).
It is my prayer that you will implement these things in your
life so that you to can transition from merely attending church regularly to building
and maintaining your relationship with God through your life living! I also challenge you to step up your walk with Christ today! Join the Proverbs 31 Day challenge! Go to Proverbs31daychallenge.com to learn more!
