We are Better Together "Sisterhood"

One band, one sound! If any of you have seen the movie “Drumline” starring Nick Cannon you would be familiar with that saying. Devon Miles played by Nick Cannon a high school kid who was headed for college. He was a part of his high school band and was offered a full band scholarship. There was one problem though; Devon was very prideful and felt that he could do life and college on his own. This showed up in his lack of respect and bad attitude toward his band leaders and professor once he arrived to college. I believe part of his prideful ways was due to some scars in his past in which the movie depicted. He felt as if he had to prove something to his father and the rest of the world and that was, he didn’t need anyone to be better.

How many of you have tried doing life on your own? You go through life with a prideful attitude because someone may have betrayed, disrespected or neglected you at some point of your life.  Because of this you feel as if you can’t trust others on your path to success and you begin your quest to greatness alone. What I can tell you is that this is will be a very lonely path and some way down that road, you are going to need help. Regardless of how smart you are or how much you have already achieved on your own; I can promise you my sister that you will only get so far by yourself.

I had to learn this throughout my life. I was once that person who felt like she was on top of the world and did not take well to asking or receiving help. I tried to figure out so many things on my own and as a result of it; many opportunities passed on by and didn't look back. If only I took hold of the hands that were extended to me; it would not have taken me as long to get to identify and walk in my purpose successfully. Community matters! You may hear us say that often and that is because it is true.  Why try to wrestle life alone when God has strategically placed people around you that can and will help!   You know why?

Because many of us (including me) have stubborn ways and feel like if we ask for help; others will take credit or we will seem to others less competent or capable, but you know what? That is a trick of the devil himself. He wants to keep us divided and at odds with one another because he knows that we are so much better together. He knows that if we have one band (unity), one sound (one goal/agenda); we will make a lot of noise (IMPACT) for the Kingdom.

People are resources and it was always God intentions for us to work with and not against each other.  Romans 12: 4-5 says "For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others." Although we all have gifts, talents and expertise, we need each other to function the way God intended.

Because of this, we have to be so much more intentional and strategic about sticking together and leaning on one another strengths vice pointing out each other weaknesses. Aristotle said that, “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.” In other words, when individual parts are connected together to form one entity, they are worth more than if the parts were individually.

There is power in ONE and I want to share with you 7 Reasons why we are better together:

  1. Two is always better than one. You can get things done quicker, faster and sooner with the majority.
  2. Others have what you need and can help you get to where you need to go.
  3. Someone else strengths can minimize and mitigate your weaknesses or inefficiencies.
  4. We are more alike than different.
  5. We can lean and glean from one another without feeling inferior or insecure.
  6. TEAM: Together Everyone Achieves More.
  7. It gets lonely at the top so why not invite all and enjoy the party together.

It the enemy’s job to steal, kill and destroy and one of the ways he tries to do that is to keep us separated because he knows that when we unite, there is no stopping us.  Each one of us contain something special within and when we are all in agreement one with another, there will be combustion!
